Friday Nature walk

On Friday Ryan and I went on a nature walk. It is something that we used to do once a week , but have not for awhile. It was a foggy drizzly morning but I was determined to get back into our nature walks no matter what the weather. It actually was a beautiful, peaceful morning despite the rain.

Ryan decided to bring his nature journal and some scissors in his backpack. When we climbed to the top of the mountain, he got his journal out but realized he did not bring any crayons or pencils for leaf rubbings. He got the idea to use a rock and dirt to make pictures in his journal - I thought that was very clever of him.

We found this cool tree with all the roots exposed big enough for Ryan to burrow down inside.
Ryan was very inspired by our walk and felt the peace of the forest, as we left he hugged many of the trees and thanked them for keeping us dry from the rain and told them he would see them next week!!!

My very first knitted sweater for myself!!!

Hurray this is only the second sweater I have ever knitted and it is the first one for myself. It took a couple months of touch and go but hey the sleeves are the same length and it fits!! What more could I ask for in a sweater.

A Waldorf Moment

Today we had the neighbor's girls over to play. They have been enjoying learning how to needle felt when they come over - and I am happy to teach them. It is also good for Ryan to have friends to needle felt with and he will sit and work on a project longer with his friends than with just me.

As they were down in the playroom working today I walked down to check on them and found the girls dressed in playsilks and Ryan dressed as the King standing on the table reciting a story he made up.

In that moment I beamed with delight knowing that my Waldorf homeschool journey has made Ryan a confident imaginative little boy that he is not afraid to be a king and tell a story to his friends as they needle felt. It is moments like these that remind me what I know in my heart and that our journey is only beginning!

Rainy Day Fun

Last week it rained for a couple days non-stop, but it did'nt stop the boys from going out and playing in the mud!! ( yes Ryan is wearing a tie! That is what he wore to the doctor's office)

Pumpkin Picking

I LOVE TO DYE !!!!

I brought out all my plant dyes and made dye baths of indigo, cochineal,madder root and osage. I poured them into jars and then started mixing away!! The hard part is that the colors are so dark that I could not tell what was what until I pulled the wool out and washed it. One day I will have a proper work space where I can have room to make sample wools coresponding to the jars. For now I am having a lot of fun and the colors are amazing. I will be able to use them on the fairies I make and sell.
