An aerial view of Everglade city! A small Island off of the bottom western part of Florida.
This past week the kids and headed down to the most south-westernly part of Florida, to Everglade City to visit our dear friends the Niles. I have never been in the Everglades and was excited to see this part of the state. Our first stop was in Melborne, Fl where we stayed the night. In the morning we headed a few miles to the beach before we continued on the the west.
We found this guy hanging out as well :
After passing FT Lauderdale we hopped on "Alligator Alley" aka 75 and stopped at the first rest area in the Everglades. It was more of a picnic /fishing area than a rest area. We did see a few alligators and some very cool birds:

We finally made it to our friends house and spent the rest of the day playing and relaxing. THe next morning we went out to the Big Cypress Boardwalk that goes through part of the Everglades.
We did see this guy and that day alone we saw 56 alligators!!
Here are a couple of manatees swimming around. I know it is hard to see them but they are there!

The following day we went out to an awesome animal sanctuary and rehabilitation center. We had a 3 hour tour and the kids learned alot!

ADeline loved feeding the miniature ones.
Ryan now wants a donkey of his own. Humm - after hearing the donkey , we might have to pass on that!

On our way back from the sanctuary we stopped at a state farmers market and loaded up on veggies at great prices!!
Back at their house , we relaxed, rode bikes and enjoyed each others company!
And fished! well practiced casting.
