Saturday fun with a little learning thrown in ....

The other day I read about this little environmental fair about an hour away near Marineland. So I thought it would be a fun day to explore the fair, bring our suits and hit the beach. Esp. since now that it is so darn hot down here and our family melts in the heat quickly we must find water soon after being outdoors. You don't want to see what happens to us with nowhere to cool off - remember that movie the Gremlins how cute they were till .... hee hee anyway....

We took the people mover over to the fair...

It was a little fair - but we had fun learning what we could
All about animal tracks
Frogs vs Toads
How our water is filtered and picked up some books on how to keep our water supply healthy
listened to some good folk music
Then called it a day and headed down the road to the Matanzas inlet. A perfect place to swim and oh so pretty

out in the middle was a sand bar that the boys wadded out to.
Adeline had a great time hanging by the shore running and jumping into the water. Silly mommy forgot her bathing suit, but thankfully she is still little enough to swim in her shorts.

We spent the rest of the afternoon there and then headed home stopping at this little BBQ spot the boys noticed on our way down. It is so small - it is take out only. I am not a fan of bbq and I am trying to eat meat once a week , but I was hungry , we had a long drive home and it smelled yummy so I ate. No meat till next Sat!!

Soul Fever

So I have been reading Simplicity Parenting by Kim Payne and in the second chapter he talks about kids having "soul fever". Basically it is about them being out of balance and finding out why and what to do to bring them back into balance. He says to treat a "soul fever" as you would a physical fever - with love and nurturing!

This has got me thinking about my own soul fever of sorts. It has been so darn hot here lately that it is not fun to get outdoors unless you are at a pool. This has been tough on my must be outside mentality. So when the temps around here dropped for a bit and a cool breeze came through , we headed to the Jacksonville Arboretum for a nature hike and for the start of our lessons on trees. It was a beautiful morning!

It was even too chilly for those pesky mosquitos so we actually enjoyed a bug free walk!! Heidi even got to tag along.
